Project E Beauty recently came out with a new and improved LED mask (with a neck attachment) that is dramatically different from the older Light Aura model that I’ve been using for years.
It’s called “Lumalux Face+ Pro“.
Obviously, I had to try it, and the company was kind enough to send it to me to try, without obligation for a review.
This post will tell you all about how it is different from the original Light Aura, other LED masks I have, and show you my 4-week trial and results.
Overview
Key Features of the New Lumalux Face+ (and the Exciting Changes)
What hasn’t changed: They kept the evidence-based wavelengths of 630nm, 850nm, and 460nm, kept the 5 other wavelengths (green, purple, cyan, yellow, and white), and kept the 2-year warranty.

Important Things That Were Updated: They added another promising NIR wavelength (1072nm) around the eyes and mouth (explanation below), added a neck and chest attachment, changed the mask material from rigid plastic to flexible silicone, created 8 different treatment modes targeting specific results, maintained the good power density/ irradiance (30 mw/cm2), added a ton of LEDS (1600 in total), and reduced the treatment time to only 3 minutes.
Another important thing – they dramatically improved the coverage and treatment areas, which has the potential for faster and more even results.
And, the mask now features specified ‘Peak Power Zones’ to deliver concentrated light energy to high-risk areas for skin aging.
Phew. There are a lot of upgrades that I wanted to explore!
Bottom Line: This is a highly upgraded and high-quality mask, and I am very impressed with it. The improvements they made from Light Aura are well thought out, and I only have a couple of very nitpicky critiques.

New Features of the Lumalux Face+ Pro
1. The New Silicone Material
The new material of the mask is super comfortable.
It’s easy to strap the mask and the neck and chest attachment, and the best bonus – I can now use it on any body part I want – because it is flexible and comfortable.
I can wrap the mask or just place it over my thigh to treat stubborn cellulite (after applying a good cellulite cream), and I can wrap it around my knee for pain relief.
The possibilities are endless (hands, arms, buttocks, etc.) – just like a red light therapy wrap.
2. Added Cushioned Eye Protection
The Lumalux also has new built-in cushion eye protection, and now it leaves no marks on my face after treatments. It feels weightless on my face, compared with my older one, which was heavy on my nose and eyes (I had to use a folded cloth to prevent red marks).
The comfort level is close to optimal now, and the mask is IEC62471 certified for eye safety.
3. Added 1150 LEDs (but Same Irradiance)
Compared to the Light Aura, which has 450 LEDs, the Lumalux now has 1600 LEDs – 800 in the mask and 800 in the neck and chest attachment.
This number of LEDs is among the highest in the industry, and the benefit is better light distribution and more uniform treatment, especially for larger or more contoured areas, and potentially faster or more even results.
However, the irradiance level (the actual strength) is the same. How is that possible?
Why Similar Irradiance with More LEDs?
Well:
Irradiance is the amount of light energy delivered per unit area (mW/cm²) to the skin.
It measures the intensity of light at the skin’s surface, not the total light produced by the device.
The number of LEDs primarily affects how evenly the light is distributed and how much area can be covered at a given intensity, not the intensity itself at any one spot.
You can have many low-powered LEDs or fewer high-powered LEDs and still achieve the same irradiance per cm² if the device is engineered that way.
Regulatory and safety considerations mean manufacturers often “cap” the irradiance to avoid skin damage or hotspots, regardless of how many LEDs are used.
4. Shortened Treatment Time
The automatic Timer is now set to only 3 minutes per session, instead of 10-15 minutes for the original mask.

I love the new time-saving upgrade (who wouldn’t?), but I use the mask daily, which is more than the recommended 3-4 times a week.
I don’t know, it feels too short to be true…
5. Added the Trending 1072 nm Wavelength
The Lumalux comes with a 1072 nm deep-penetrating wavelength, just like the Omnilux Men mask (which I found to be better for women too).
These 1072 nm LEDs are spread around more difficult areas, like crow’s feet and laugh lines, here’s why:
The wavelength’s ability to penetrate deeply into the skin, reaching both the epidermis and dermis, is a unique advantage, potentially offering targeted benefits for skin rejuvenation.
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study found that daily treatment with 1072 nm light for 6–8 weeks improved fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes in 52–57% of volunteers.
Less improvement was noted for under-eye bags, but results were still statistically significant –
Another pilot study reported that a single 5-minute treatment with 1072 nm light reduced cold sore healing time by up to 4 days compared to standard antiviral therapy (aciclovir) –
6. Added 8 Modes Including Combined Wavelengths
The Lumalux now has 8 modes with 5 clinically proven wavelengths, to treat Fine lines, wrinkles, advanced aging (deep collagen production), acne, hyperpigmentation, redness, dullness, scarring, and irritation.

These are the modes:
- Red (630nm): Core anti-aging, collagen production.
- Infrared (850nm): Deeper penetration than red light, enhances collagen and elastin, reduces inflammation, and improves circulation.
- Deep Infrared (1072nm): This is a key differentiator. It penetrates even deeper than traditional infrared, targeting more advanced signs of aging, stimulating advanced-phase collagen production, and potentially impacting muscles, joints, and nerves.
- Blue (460nm): Acne treatment, reduces pore size, regulates oil, and reduces inflammation.
- Green (520nm): Hyperpigmentation, dark spots, uneven skin tone.
Combination Modes:
- Deep Rejuvenation: Deep infrared + infrared + red (630 + 850 + 1072nm) – most powerful anti-aging.
- Intense Youth Boost: Infrared + red (850 + 630nm) – prevents aging, and boosts collagen/elastin.
- Blemish Control: Blue (460nm) – targets acne.
- Calm and Clear (Purple): Red + Blue (630 + 460nm) – anti-blemish, reinforces collagen matrix, repairs the skin barrier.
- Balance and Brighten: Green (520nm) – hyperpigmentation, dullness.
- Soothing Harmony (Cyan): Blue + Green (460 + 520nm) – purifies and soothes inflamed/sensitive skin (rosacea).
- Glow Enhancer (Yellow): Red + Green (630 + 520nm) – stimulates red blood cells, and softens skin texture.

Let’s compare the Lumalux with my other LED Masks:
Lumalux vs. Other LED Masks I Have
When it comes to LED face masks, there are a few things that really make a difference. First, you want to make sure the wavelengths are backed by research and that the device actually delivers enough power (also known as irradiance).
From there, it mostly comes down to how it fits and feels on your face, and that part’s personal.
Since every face is shaped differently, what feels comfortable for one person might not work for another.
Personally, I think both the Lumalux Face+ Pro and the Omnilux Men’s mask are great options, and obviously, price plays a role.
But what stood out most to me is how much Project E Beauty improved things in the Lumalux series.
The LED precision and overall upgrades really show they’re focused on quality, and I appreciate that.
